EMDR- what is it?

EMDR is a therapy called Eye Movement Desensitising and Reprocessing, EMDR for short, which was developed in the late 1980s. Currently, EMDR has more scientific research for trauma than other treatments (except medication).
Sometimes, parts of the memories of traumas tend to get separated from each other within the left and right sides of the brain. Undergoing the process of EMDR aims at integrating whole memories, which often eases the intensity of the memories.

Why I use EMDR

I use this therapy with some of my clients because I believe it can be a very effective tool in reducing or removing painful memories of trauma. I have been very impressed by the results for my clients who have used EMDR to minimise the consequences of trauma EMDR can help to replace negative thoughts or experiences with happier and calmer ones, thus enabling you to move on. However, I use EMDR only with some clients, where it is appropriate. I don’t use it with every client in my practice.

Types of trauma I work with >>>

How I work

In working with EMDR, we focus upon memories of whatever your trauma is about. In doing so, I work with you upon different aspects of the trauma which may be troubling you. The memories connected to the trauma may include feelings of:

self blame
fear
guilt
shame

As an outcome of your trauma, you may experience any of these:

panic attacks
recurring nightmares
flashbacks
phobias
substance abuse
depression
anxiety
